Where our ferry, port and island data comes from — and how we handle what changes.
The recommendations here are only as good as the data behind them. Ferry schedules shift with the season, ports change, and weather cancels boats. We would rather tell you how we know something, and how confident we are, than present every line as settled fact.
What we track
Islands, ports and the distances between them. Routes, timetables, seasonality and which operator runs what. Ferry types, and whether they take cars and heavy luggage. Transfer time between a port and where you sleep. Cancellation history and wind patterns. Stays, and the minimum nights each island really needs.
Fact, estimate and recommendation
We keep these separate on purpose. A published departure time is a fact. A typical door-to-port transfer or a "from" price is an estimate, and we label it. How many nights an island deserves, or whether a same-day connection is worth the risk, is our judgement — you are free to disagree with it.
How often it updates
Greek operators publish seasonal schedules late and adjust them through the summer, so anything time-sensitive carries the date we last checked it. Prices and frequencies are indicative and move with the season. Before you book, confirm the live timetable with the operator — we say so on every page that shows a departure.
When we get it wrong
Sometimes we will. A route gets dropped, a port moves, a crossing stops running midweek. Tell us at hello@hop-the-islands.com and we will correct it and stamp the page with a new review date. Corrections from travellers and operators are the fastest signal we have.
